Abstract
The study has focused on immigration and nostalgia in Mohsin Hamid`s novels. The study’s primary objective is to investigate the circumstances of the migrants, refugees` crisis, and identities of those who have endured great suffering for many years, particularly after the terroristic attacks of September 11, 2001. This study has illustrated the idea of identity and what causes to the identity crisis. Most significantly, it has delineated the migrants` identity crisis in Hamid`s transnational novels, especially The Reluctant Fundamentalist and Exit West. The protagonist`s identity in The Reluctant Fundamentalist suffered before and after the 9/11 attacks consciously and unconsciously and his American dream turned into a mirage which led to his nostalgia for the past. The dissertation has also aimed to highlight the events of the first decade of the 21st century through Hamid`s The Reluctant Fundamentalist and the second decade of the same century through Hamid`s latest novel, Exit West, to show the significance of migration and nostalgia in Western countries and their relationship to the Muslims` identity.
