Abstract

Hydrazones and their metal complexes have been attracted many authors due to their wide applications in analytical, catalytic, industerial fields and display various biological activities such as antithrombotic, antimicrobial, antitubercular, antimalarial, anticancer and antioxidant activities.
The thesis comprises of three chapters:
Chapter 1 includes the introduction on the general trends on hydrazones, acetophenone, benzaldhyde, 2-acetylpyridine, coordination chemistry, basic principles of metals such as cobalt (II), nickel (II) and copper (II) and their applications. This Chapter also discusses the possible Oxidation states of metal ions and different geometries of the complexes. Moreover, we have provided a thorough literature survey relevant to our work in the last section of this chapter.Chapter 2 concerned with the experimental work and illustrates the used experiments. Also, includes a list of reagents along with the physical measurements and instrumentation. The working procedures of computational studies were also discussed as well as a description for the preparation of the ligands and their complexes. The synthesized ligands (HLn) and their complexes (1-9) with Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) ions were investigated by elemental analysis (C, H and N), molar conductivity measurements, magnetic measurements, spectral studies (FTIR, UV-Visible, 1H NMR and 13C NMR), thermal studies (TGA), and XRD pattern.Chapter 3 concerned with the results and discussion of this study.
