Abstract

Introduction The transition of people to nations or locations outside of their normal environment for personal, business-related, or cultural reasons is known as tourism (World Tourism Organization, 2005). For nations, tourism was increasingly important economically (Mina and Ali, 2008).
With the dollar revenues it generates and the foreign exchange from tourism returns that allowed it to contribute significantly to the GDP, it is one of the most important sources of national income. And it helps to employ a large portion of the workforce. With its high visitor arrivals, Egypt is one of the most well-known travel destinations in the world. It stands out for the variety of tourist attractions it offers, including the profusion of temples, museums, monuments, historical and artistic structures, and expansive gardens. Additionally, it has resources oriented on supporting the tourism industry, such as hotel rooms, villages, resorts, travel agencies, and airline offices (Derbali and Elnagar, 2020).
The nature of the tourism offering is particularly complex. Everything that tourists buy is included from the moment they leave their homes until they return (Ţîţub et al., 2016). The total of all services is important, such as those for lodging, transportation, attractions, and activities, as well as for banking services, travel publications, and tour guides, etc. (Camilleri, 2018).
Service excellence in the tourism industry is now recognized as a key driver of economic progress. Quality has great importance as it helps organizations build competitiveness and gain a foothold in high-end markets. When implementing the requirements to achieve quality, specific standards are adopted that contribute to enhance the consumer confidence in the products of that organization (Park and Jeong, 2019).
Providing excellent quality service means match the actual level of quality with the expectations of tourists or excel in some cases, and these expectations are built on the basis of the dimensions by which to judge the quality of the service (Gounaris et al., 2003). All stages of quality management linked to the observance of customer demands such as determining the desires and determine the services needed to satisfy these desires. It is the secret of success of any tourism industry in various countries around the world (Lanka et al., 2009).
Tourist trips played a major role in the tourism movement, especially the one-day trip. South Sinai Governorate is considered a global center for all kinds of tourism, medical, land and marine components, which are suitable for all types of tourism, foremost of which are beaches, and water sports on the Gulf of Aqaba, then medical tourism and herbs, as well as the tourism of festivals and races and the most famous of them Camel racing and its folklore carnivals, and the cities of South Sinai. Especially its three cities, Sharm El-Sheikh’s, Saint Catherin, and Dahab, and This was the reason for choosing the three cities as the study area (South Sinai Governorate, 2021).
Trips of all kinds have a great role in the tourism movement. These trips include several activities, short trips and optional tours. One-day trips are characterized by short durations and frequenting nearby tourist destinations. It is a quick trip for pleasure that often doesn’t last more than 24 hours and frequently excludes overnight accommodations. Although they can be primarily cultural or simply recreational in terms of duration, they are basic a type of integrated tourist movement. Tourists are defined as visitors who stay at least one night in the destination they are visiting. Whereas excursionists are spending few hour during one day trip (Stetic et al., 2011).
Research Problem
Despite the significance of one-day trips’ evaluation services quality, researchers have so far mostly did not discuss. Rarely do the current literatures provide a trustworthy scale for identifying and evaluating the service quality aspects of typical one-day trips.
South Sinai Governorate as every unique Egyptian destination was chosen for these studies by exploring .the extent to which one day trips accomplish in the governorate have a good quality and satisfying international and Egyptian tourists.
The currently study tried to accomplish that by tested some important one day trips service and dimensions (transportation, tour leader, food and beverage, shopping, security, fairness of price, and nature and activities).
Research Importance
Since quality affects ”competitiveness,” it has become a strategic component in businesses that provide services. Managers and tour operators can identify quality issues and enhance the trip by using quality models.
Despite One day trips are sources of additional revenue for the tour operators and tourism agencies, there are few studies on it. In comparably to the wide coverage of studies on package tours, one day trips are as yet an area that has been ignored by academics.
The importance of this research returned to focusing on assessing the quality of services of one-day trips in South Sinai, and identifying obstacles that face tourists during these trips. The research presented some recommendations to overcome these obstacles to develop the trip. This may assess quality of these trips and giving suggestion to improve the level of tourist satisfaction.
Research Objectives
This research aims at:
1- Determining the extent to which tourists are satisfied with the services quality offered during the one-day trip in South Sinai.
2-Identifying the problems facing the tourists during one day trip in South Sinai.
3- Identifying how service quality of one day trips can be improved.
Research Questions
The research is relied to answer three questions:-
1-To what extent the tourists of one-day trips are satisfied with the quality of services offered in South Sinai?
2-What are the problems facing the tourists during one-day trips in South Sinai?
3-How service quality of one day trips can be improved?
Research Methodology
This study depended on two methods in collecting the data which are:-
1- Secondary data: it was collected from books, reports, journals, scientific research, official websites, and other sources relevant to services quality, one-day trips, and South Sinai.
2- Primary data: Quantitative and Qualitative methods were used to achieve the Objectives of this study. A Quantitative approach was based on a questionnaire (Appendix 1) that was developed and directed to a sample of tourists to evaluate the services quality of one-day trips, Moreover a qualitative approach was depended on interviews, a sample of tour operators conducted in South Sinai. The interviews aimed to determine problems facing the tourists during one day trips (Appendix 2).
Furthermore, the interviewees were asked to suggest recommendations to improve the quality services of one day trips in South Sinai.
Research Delimitations
There are three kinds of delimitations in the current study as follows:-
1-Place delimitations
In this study, one day trip in three importance cites located in South Sinai Governorate was tested. The three cities are: (Sharm El Sheik, St. Catherin, and Dahab)
2-Time delimitations
The questionnaire which directed to tourists was distributed in three destinations from June 2020 to December 2020. The interviews with tour operators were conducted from July 2020 to October 2020.thus, the full field work was applied from June to December 2020.
3-Subject delimitations
The currently study tried to evaluate the quality of one day trips in South Sinai by assessing seven different dimensions which are (transportation, tour leader, food and beverage, shopping, security, fairness of price, and nature & activities).
