Abstract This study aimed at investigating the effectiveness of inquiry based learning on enhancing the expository essay writing of second year English department students. The study was performed on 20 male and female students in the academic year 2020-2021. A pilot study was conducted to identify the student’s points of weakness and writing problems. The study included one experimental group that had a training using inquiry based learning strategy for 14 sessions, each session took 90 minutes. Students’ scores on the pre and posttest were statistically analyzed using the test to find out the effect of IBL on enhancing the writing Performance of the target students related to writing proper introduction, body and conclusion of the expository essay. A scoring rubric was designed by the researcher to evaluate students’ performance before and after doing the experiment. Results of the study indicated significant difference in the overall students’ expository writing performance at the level 0.01 in the students mean scores between the pre and posttest in favor of the post test. |
