Abstract

The present study aims to know the protective effect of some foods rich in choline, selenium and flavonoids from Alzheimer’s disease in mice. Thirty-six male albino rats weighing about (25 ± 5 g) were then divided as follows: the first main group kept as negative control group (6 mice) was fed on basal diet. The second main group (30 mouse) kept as positive group, were divided into 5 subgroups as follows: Subgroup 1 positive control group (6 mice) were fed on basal diet+ALCL3 (IP). Subgroup 2 (6 mice) were fed on basal diet and given orally soymilk, Subgroup 3(6 mice) were fed on basal diet supplemented with banana pulp + dried coconut+ALCL3 (IP)., Subgroup 4 (6 mice) were fed on basal diet supplemented with dark cacao+ALCL3 (IP). and Subgroup 5 (6 mice) were fed on basal diet supplemented with mixture of natural foods+ALCL3 (IP)..
In the fifth week of the experiment, some behavioral tests (Y-maze - object recognition maze - Morris water maze) were performed. At the end of the experimental period (6 weeks), mice were sacrificed after fasting overnight and anesthetized to obtain blood and centrifuged to obtain serum. Serum was analyzed to determine serum: kidney function, liver function, lipid profile and enzymatic antioxidants SOD- CAT and neurotransmitter ACHE and organs were separated for histopathology of brain, liver and kidney.
The results obtained showed the following:
1. Protective Effect of Some Foods Rich in Choline, Selenium and Flavonoids on lipid profile Alzheimer’s mice model:
The results showed a significant increase at (p<0.05) of TG, TC, VLDL-c, LDL-c levels and a decrease in HDL-c level for the positive control group as compared to the negative control group. As results showed a significant improvement and decrease at (p<0.05) in TG, TC, VLDL-c, LDL-c levels and an increase in HDL-c level in the groups treated with foods rich in choline, selenium and flavonoids with ALCL3, and the best result was for the group treated with a mixture of natural foods as compared to the positive control group.
2. Protective Effect of Some Foods Rich in Choline, Selenium and Flavonoids on Kidney Function in Alzheimer’s mice model:
The results showed a significant increase at (p<0.05) of Urea nitrogen, Creatinine and Uric acid levels for the positive control group as compared to the negative control group. As results showed a significant improvement and decrease at (p<0.05) in Urea nitrogen, Creatinine and Uric levels in the groups treated with foods rich in choline, selenium and flavonoids with ALCL3 and the best result was for the group treated with the a mixture of natural foods as compared to the positive control group.
3. Protective Effect of Some Foods Rich in Choline, Selenium and Flavonoids on Liver Function in Alzheimer’s mice model:
The results showed a significant increase at (p<0.05) in AST and ALT levels for the positive control group compared to the negative control group. As results showed a significant improvement and decrease at (p<0.05) in AST and ALT levels in the groups treated with foods rich in choline, selenium and flavonoids with ALCL3 and the best result was for the group treated with a mixture of natural foods as compared to the positive control group.
4. Protective Effect of Some Foods Rich in Choline, Selenium and Flavonoids on SOD – CAT- ACHE in Alzheimer’s mice model:
The results showed a significant increase at (p<0.05) in ACHE level and a decrease of CAT, SOD levels for the positive control group as compared to the negative control group. As results showed an improvement and a significant decrease (p<0.05) in ACHE level and an increase in CAT, SOD levels in the groups treated with foods rich in choline, selenium and flavonoids with ALCL3, and the best result was for the group treated with a mixture of natural foods as compared to the positive control group.
5. Protective Effect of Some Foods Rich in Choline, Selenium and Flavonoids on Some Behavioral Tests in Alzheimer’s mice model:
The results showed a decrease at (p<0.05) in the reference learning and memory levels of mice in the Y maze and Novel Object recognition maze, but there was no statistical difference at (p<0.05) in the reference learning and memory levels of mice in the Morris water maze for the positive control group as compared to the negative control group.
As results showed an improvement and an increase in the levels of learning and memory in mice in the groups treated with foods rich in choline, selenium, and flavonoids with ALCL3 and the best result of the group treated with a mixture of natural foods was in the mazes of Morris water and Novel Object recognition compared to the positive and negative control groups. But the best result of the treated mice in the Y- maze was for the group treated with choline rich food as compared to the positive and negative control groups.
