Abstract

The purpose of this research was to examine the effect of dynamic corrective feedback on the grammar accuracy of Egyptian EFL learners as manifested in their academic writing. This is a quasi-experimental study with a pretest-treatment-posttest design. Sixty EFL learners from two intact classes at a private university in Egypt were divided into two groups. The experimental group included 30 learners who received dynamic corrective feedback (DCF) while the control group received metalinguistic corrective feedback (MCF). Prior to the study, all learners underwent a pretest to determine their writing accuracy level. The experiment utilized argumentative writing as a tool to collect data about learners{u2019} performance. After the eight weeks of the treatment, an immediate posttest was administered. In Week 10, learners in the dynamic corrective feedback had a delayed posttest to measure the long term effect of the feedback. The results showed that the errors of the DCF group remarkably decreased as opposed to the slight accuracy improvement achieved by the MCF. The delayed posttest showed that correction was retained to a great extent. In order to gain insights about learners{u2019} perception towards DCF, a questionnaire was administered after the experiment ended
