Abstract

The present research investigation was carried out during the period from 2017-2020 and included three research experiments. All these three experiments were performed at Soilless Culture Unit, Research Vegetable Farm, Olericulture and Floriculture Dept., Agric. Faculty, Mansoura Univ., Egypt. The first experiment aimed to study the effect of three substrate culture systems {PVC plastic pipes 4 inches in diameter with circular holes (first culture system), PVC plastic pipes 4 inches in diameter, the top third of which is cut lengthwise (second culture system) and slit PVC plastic pipes 8 ” in diameter (third culture system)} in A letter style, three growing media (vermiculite, peat moss and vermiculite : peat moss at 1:1, v/v) and their interactions on growth, yield and quality of lattuga lettuce (Lactuca sativa L. cv. ’Green Star’) plants grown soilless cultured. The second experiment aimed to investigate the impact of the same above three substrate culture systems, three different nitrogen concentrations (150, 200 and 250 mg L-1) of the Cooper’s nutrient solution and their combinations on also growth, yield and quality of soilless cultured lattuga lettuce. As well, the third experiment aimed to study the influence of the same three forecited growing media, three aforementioned different nitrogen concentrations within the Cooper’s nutrient solution and their interactions on growth, yield and quality of soilless cultivated lattuga lettuce.
All above mentioned three experiments had been laid out as strip plot design, and all means of the obtained data were compared by LSD test.
