Abstract

Abstract
Background: EDCs are chemicals released into the environment and affect an organism’s endocrine system .Endocrine disrupting pesticides (EDPs) are the largest group of EDCs in numbers. Organophosphorus (OP) and Carbamate are the most commonly used pesticide in agriculture field. Their toxicity depends largely on their ability to inhibit cholinesterase activity. Individual susceptibility plays an important role in pesticide exposure outcome and it’s controlled by several enzymes such as paraoxonase (PON1) enzyme .Aim: The aim of this study is to determine the toxicity and endocrine disruptor effect of two types of pesticides and their mixture in male albino rats. Material and methods: We measured the levels of (MDA, TAC, PON1 and Serum cholinesterase) .The levels of serum lipid profile were measured. Also we evaluated their endocrine disruptor effect through measuring levels of Testosterone and Estradiol hormones and their receptors AR and ER. Serum thyroid hormones levels were also determined. Histopathological analysis for liver, testis and thyroid were also done Results and conclusions: We found decrease in TAC, PON1 and cholinesterase levels and increase in MDA levels in all groups. Levels of lipid profile showed significant increase except HDL levels which decreased in all groups. We also found decrease in serum hormones, their receptor and thyroid hormones except Estradiol which showed no significant change. The histopathological examination showed changes in the examined sections of liver, testis and thyroid. The mentioned results strongly suggest the toxicity and endocrine disruptor effect of these two pesticides and their mixture.
