Abstract

This study was conducted to study the chemical composition and mineral contents of Neem leaves which obtained from Agriculture Research Center, Giza. Study the chemical composition, some active compounds such as total phenol, total flavonoids, and identification of phenolic using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Biological study of Neem leaves was done on rats for 28 days with different concentrations (2.5%, 5 %, 250 mg/kg and 500 mg/kg). Rats were divided into six groups; the first group fed on the standard diet only (negative control) and the second group injected by alloxan (positive control) and the third group on the infected diabetic fed on the standard diet with 2.5% dried Neem leaves as powder. group 4 infected diabetic fed on the standard diet with 5% Neem leaves as powder. group 5 infected diabetic fed on the standard diet with 250 mg/kg Neem leaves. group 6 infected diabetic fed on the standard diet with 500 mg/kg Neem leaves. Also, study the effect of different concentrations Neem leaves on some biochemical tests such as body weight gain, food intake and food efficiency rate, blood sugar, cholesterol, triglycerides, liver and kidney function.
The obtained results could be summarized in the following:
6.1. Chemical composition of Neem leaves:
1. The moisture, protein, fat ash, fiber, carbohydrates, and energy value content of Neem leaves as wet weight were 10.80 %, 1.68 %, 2.07 %, 2.91 %, 6.02 %, 76.52 % and 313.43 kcal/100g, respectively.
2. On the other hand, the protein, fat ash, fiber, carbohydrates, and energy value content of Neem leaves as dry weight were 1.89 %, 2.32 %, 3.26 %, 6.75 %, 85.78 % and 371.56 kcal/100g, respectively.
