Abstract

Pot experiment was carried out to amend the harmful influence of soil salinity stress in lavender plants by salicylic acid (SA) and ascorbic acid (AA) foliar spray at the Nursery of ornamental plants, Agric. Fac., Zagazig Univ., Sharkia Governorate, Egypt during winter consecutive seasons of 2018/ 2019 and 2019/2020. The target of this work was to determine the impact of foliar applications i.e., sprayed with tap water (control), 150 ppm SA, 250 ppm AA and 150 ppm SA plus 250 ppm AA under four soil salinity levels (0.0, 1000, 2000 and 3000 ppm) as well as their combination treatments on plant growth, herb yield, salt resistance index (SRI %), volatile oil and some chemical constituents of Lavandula officinalis (lavender) plants. The achieved results referred to that using soil salinity level (1000 ppm) significantly increased lavender growth parameters, root system, herb yield components, volatile oil yield per plant and most of chemical constituents compared to control and the highest levels under study. In the other words, increasing soil salinity levels gradually improved volatile oil (% and yield per plant) as well as proline content. Moreover, the maximum values of the most of all above mentioned traits were produced by treating lavender plants with 150 ppm SA plus 250 ppm AA. In general, it could recommended that utilizing 150 ppm SA plus 250 ppm AA, produce a uniform influence in qualifying of lavender yield inhibition and enhancing SRI % and volatile oil production under moderate soil salinity stress (1000 ppm) conditions.
