Abstract

Introduction: It is important to identify the most effective therapeutic modality in the management of myofascial trigger points (MTRPs). Objectives This study aimed to investigate the effect of therapeutic US, L.L.L and KT in reducing pain and improving cervical range of motion (ROM) among patients with MTRPs. Experimental study comparing three groups was designed as a one-month trial, a correlational design was considered. Outcome measures: VAS for pain, provocative pain test using ―pressure algometer‖ and active cervical range of motion using goniometer. Methods: Patients were divided into 3 groups, group 1 underwent treatment using therapeutic ultrasound, group 2 with low level laser and group 3 with kinesio-taping. Assessments were done pre and post treatment. Results: ANOVA revealed improvement among all 3 groups but there was no statistically significant difference (p>0.05) among groups. While within groups Analysis using T- test shows a statistically significant difference in the improvement within each group between pre and post assessment. Mean differences of scores between pre and post assessment related to the effect of LLL on reliving pain, US and KT increase blood circulation and reliving pain with MTRPs. Conclusion: It was concluded that the three modalities can be used as an effective treatment regimen in the management of MTRPs thereby reducing disability caused by musculoskeletal pathology.
