Abstract

This thesis dealt with the synthesis of some fabricated filtration me-dia and their application in water treatment.
The thesis contains three chapters, arranged as follows:
Chapter I: Introduction
The introduction included some scientific heritage belonging to water characteristics, water pollution and water treatment includ-ing the following topics:
1. Water treatment process
2. . Membrane filtration.
3. Types of membranes
4. Reverse Osmosis Membranes.
5. Nano-porous Membranes for Water Purification.
6. Types of Nanoporous Membrane.
Chapter II: The experimental work
This chapter included the method of preparing of the PVAc/P.E membrane as well as measurements and experiments that conducted during the work.
Chapter III: Results and Discussion
This chapter discussed the preparation and evaluation of the pro-duced filtration media in the water treatment. Some of valuable pa-rameter in the preparation and characterization were studied and dis-cussed briefly such as:

1. Parameters affecting the production of PVAc/P.E membrane.
2. Effect of pH on water content at constant time and temperature.
3. Effect of temperature on water content at constant time and pH.
4. Effect of immersion numbers of the examined membranes in PVAc solution at constant concentration on air permeability.
5. Effect of concentration of PVAc/P.E on the air permeability.
6. Effect of immersion of the examined membranes in PVAc solution at constant concentration on thickness.
7. Effect of concentration of PVAc solution on thickness.
8. Effect of immersion no. in PVAc solution of the examined membranes at constant concentration on draping.
9. Effect of concentration of PVAc solution on draping.
10. Effect of immersion no. of the examined membranes in PVAc solution at constant concentration on tensile strength
11. Effect of concentration no. in PVAc solution on tensile strength.
12. Effect of immersion of the examined membranes in PVAc solution at constant concentration on tensile strength and elongation.
13. Effect of concentration of PVAc solution on tensile strength and elongation.
The above mentioned factor that affecting the membrane properties such as water content, thickens, draping, tensile strength and elongation were studied. In addition to the effect of pH, number of immersion in (PVAc) solution, soaking time and temperature on the properties of the produced membranes were also investigated. The results of this work showed that the best permeation rate and filtration efficiency was achieved by using 8% (PVAc) with tow immersion in its solution. Also, in this work, the produced membrane was applied as ultrafiltration media with different applied pressure for water filtration technique.
