Abstract

The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of Two CAD/CAM materials and Two preparation designs on the fracture resistance of occlusal veneers.
Two typodont teeth were prepared to receive partial coverage restorations (occlusal veneers) using two designs: Butt Margin Design and Chamfer Finish Line preparation, the two prepared typodont teeth were duplicated to produce epoxy dies using silicone duplicating material. Occlusal veneers (n= 28) were divided according to material as follows (n=14):
• group (E) : Lithium Silicate glass ceramics (E-max)
• group (V): Hybrid ceramics (vita enamic)
Each group will be subdivided into two subgroups according to preparation design (n=14):
• Subgroup (A): Occlusal reduction with butt margin (n=14)
• Subgroup (B): Occlusal reduction with chamfer finish line.(n=14)
The restorations were cemented using self-adhesive resin cement and universal testing machine was used to measure fracture resistance with static load.
The following results were obtained:
1- Butt joint samples had significantly higher fracture resistance value than chamfer samples in E-max group (p=0.039).
2- Chamfer samples had significantly higher fracture resistance value than butt joint samples in chamfer group (p=0.024).
3- Emax samples had a significantly higher fracture resistance value than Vita Enamic samples in butt margin subgroup (p<0.001).
4- Emax samples had a higher fracture resistance value than Vita Enamic samples in chamfer group yet the difference was not statistically significant (p=0.062).
