Abstract

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease of unknown etiology which is characterized by a chronic inflammatory process that leads to synovial membrane destruction of the small and large synovial joints . Quality of life (QoL) is a multidimensional concept that is used to describe the individuals’ perceptions , satisfaction , and evaluation of different areas of their own lives , such as physical health and functioning , psychological and emotional wellbeing , social roles , and relationships. Sleep problems occur in 54–70% of RA patients and include poor quality , difficulty falling asleep , non restorative sleep , awakening during the night , and wakefulness. In RA patients, sleep problems may be caused by pain , depressive mood , and disease activity. Sleep quality has been affected indirectly by pain through disease activity. Sleep impairment has many consequences such as pain exacerbation , fatigue , mood disorders , decreased social participation , daytime sleepiness or dysfunction , reduced work productivity and finally poor quality of life (QoL). The aim of this study was to assess affection of the quality of life in rheumatoid arthritis patients & its correlation with disease activity & functional impairement.
