Abstract

This study was aimed to investigate the expression levels of miR-NA 155a and miRNA 181b in patients suffering from chronic Lym-phocytic Leukemia (CLL) and to evaluate their potential role as non invasive diagnostic molecular markers. The study was undertaken on 40 CLL patients beside 10 healthy control subjects. The expression levels of miRNA 155a and miRNA 181b were assessed using quanti-tative PCR.
The obtained results revealed a significant up regulation in the ex-pression level of miRNA 155a compared to its expression level of control group. On the other hand, miRNA 181b was down regulated significant compared to its level in control group.
At cut off values of 19.5 and 10.8 for miR155 and miRNA 181b respectively, they able to discriminate between CLL and control group with 85%,75% sensitivity and 100%, 80% specificity, respec-tively.
Conclusion: miRNA 155a could have a role in CLL pathogenesis and progression while miRNA 181b may have a role in suppression of malignant cells. Both have the potential to be used as a diagnostic bi-omarker.
