This research explains the role of Bani Umayyed in the political, economic, administrative, social and military life during the Umayyah period (41/132 Hijra).This study also deals with the descendants of Bani Umayyah and their high status among the tribe of Qureish during the Jahilite ”Pre-Islamic period”. It shows that the commercial military and social leadership in Macca during this time was under their control It also explains the attitude of Bani Umayyah towards the prophet and his message indicating that their hostility was not against the prophet himself, but it was against the message which called for equality among leaders and comunoners. Yet their disapproval did not last long as was demonstrated in their mass conversion to Islam and their contribution to it in the years to come. This research revealed the activities of Bani Umayyah during the Rashidi period and their role in the spread of Islam outside Arabia. It was also demonstrated in their participation in campaigns in the land of Syria and Iraq.
