Abstract

Aim of the study: The present study aimed to assess self-care practices regarding prevention of reproductive tract infection among female adolescent.
Research design: A Descriptive study design was used.
Setting: the study was conducted at faculty of nursing in Menofiyia University; this place was chosen because of the large number of female adolescent in this educational stage.
Sample type: A Convenient sample of 150 female adolescent (age group 17-19 years) in 1st year of the faculty of nursing that was included in this study
Tool of data collection:
Tool I: Self -administered questionnaire it included three parts:
Part I: General characteristics of the female adolescent (age, marital status)
Part II: to assess female adolescent`s knowledge regarding RTI
Part III: to assess female adolescent self –practices regarding prevention of RTI
The results of present study revealed that:-
• The total knowledge score of studied students
(68, 2 %) had incorrect knowledge regarding reproductive tract infections and (31, 8 %)had correct knowledge.
• About (71, 3%) of adolescent females students’ had Unsatisfactory self-care practice regarding prevention reproductive tract infections and (31, 8 %) had satisfactory self-care practice.
• There were a highly significant relation between Total level of self-care practice of female adolescent and their total level of knowledge
• there were no statistically significant relation between total knowledge of study sample and their mother`s job, a highly significant relation between total knowledge of them and their father`s and mother`s education, as well as, a significant relation between total level of knowledge of them and their age and monthly income
• there were a highly significant relation between total self -care practice of the study sample and their father and their mother` job, Also, a significant relation between total self- care of them and their age, mother` education and monthly income
Conclusion: Based on the finding of the present study, it can be concluded that:.
The finding of the present study answered the research question as, slightly more than three quarter of the studied adolescent had incorrect regarding mode of transmition of RTI and slightly more than two third of them had incorrect knowledge regarding preventive measures. Regarding total knowledge score the current study finding revealed that slightly more than two third of them had incorrect knowledge. Also slightly less than three quarter of the studied adolescent had unsatisfactory self-care practice regarding prevention of RTI. In addition, There were a highly statistically significant relation between total level of knowledge and total self-care practice of the studied adolescent regarding prevention of RTIs.
