Abstract

Summary : Intrauterine contraception devices (IUCDs) are the most common method of reversible contraception, used by approximately 14.3% of reproductive-aged women worldwide (Buhling et al., 2014). IUCD insertion is a unique experience to the female, it may be a good one feeling nothing, she may feel like a pinch, or may be unpleasant experience feeling cramps and abdominal pain. About 17% of females never get pregnant before and about 11% of females that get pregnant before feel pain with IUCD placement that is strong enough to be treated. Some doctors give NSAIDs for pain management during IUCD placement, however, no drug was found to be effective for pain prophylaxis in routine use for females during IUCD placement. (Gemzell-Danielsson et al., 2013). In our study we aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of misoprostol use when administrated sublingually 2 hours prior IUCD placement in females with no prior vaginal delivery. The study was prospective randomized controlled study comprised of 120 patients divided as fellow. Patient group: include 60 subject receiving misoprostol. Control group: include 60 subject recieving placebo. All patients are subjected to full history taking, examination, and ultrasound examination. Our results can be summarized in the following points : * Pain before, during and after insertion showed significantly higher degree associated with placebo when compared to misoprostol group. * Misoprostol was significantly associated with less difficulty during insertion of IUCD when compared to placebo group. * Unsuccessful insertion was significantly associated with placebo when compared to misoprostol groups. Satisfaction to IUCD was significantly associated with misoprostol when compared to placebo groups. * Side effects were not found before insertion. However, after insertion, most of studied cases showed no side effects (94.9%), while 2 had nausea and only 1 had headache.
