Abstract Background: Worldwide, infertile is considered as a stain and shame, as well as a traumatic event, which leads to sufferings of infertile couples. It causes a life wide range of socio-cultural, emotional, physical, and financial problems. Quality of life (QOL) is an important indicator for the assessment of individual’s health, decision-making, and passing judgment on the overall health of the community. Aim: The aim of this study is to assess the infertile couple’s socio demographic data; information about infertility; and the effect of infertility on physical, psychological, and social health, as well as the treatment on their QOL. Setting: The study is conducted at outpatient infertility clinics, at Ain Shams University Maternity Hospital. Subjects and Methods: A convenient sample is obtained; all infertile couples who attended and accepted to participate in the study. Design: A Quasi experimental design was utilized. Tools: Two tools are used for data collection: (1) A structured interviewing questionnaire to assess knowledge, (2) FertiQOL to assess effect of infertility on QOL. Results: Statistically the study showed a high significant relation between infertile couples’ level of education and all QOL sub-domains, non-statistically significant relations between the level of QOL and their type of infertility. Also, results confirmed a significant positive correlation between infertility and QOL. Conclusions: Infertility has a varied impact on multiple dimensions of infertile couples’ health and their QOL. Meanwhile, findings of could be used to guide health care providers, who work with those experiencing this problem. Recommendations: Guidelines should be developed and distributed in large numbers of infertility clinics to help infertile women to cope with infertility problems and enhance their QOL knowledge. |
