Abstract

ABSTRACT
FIDIC contracts’ terms and conditions ensures a balanced right regards all parties of
the contract environment. Although, Complexity of the various activities and due to the
participation of several parties in the construction industry a lot of variations and claims had
been triggered and risen.
Types of variations and claims in terms of the Conditions of Contract for Construction
for building and engineering works designed by the employer (New Red Book) (FIDIC),1999 ,
have a different level of frequency and impact to projects life cycle in the construction industry.
A significant Causes of types of variations and claims reveals badly effects to projects
time and cost schedule baseline. Avoidability of causes of the types of variations and claims is a
wise recommendation from a lot of construction contracts researchers.
76 leading construction participants including clients, consultants and contractors
were responded for the study. The analytical results of the survey were further examined by
statistical tests via the analysis of the data collected from the questionnaire survey.
The main findings of the study lead to identifying the significant types of variation
and claims and its causes. The study continues to examines the significant causes of the most
significant types of variations and claims. These shall establish the basis to formulate strategies
to focus on avoidability and minimization of variations and claims.
