Abstract

Background: Being overweight and obesity are among the most significant health problems in our era. Infertility is another health problem affecting 15% of the couples in developed countries.
Aim of the Work: to examine the relationships between reproductive hormones (FSH, LH, total testosterone, estradiol, prolactin) and semen parameters with increased Body Mass Index on primary infertile men.
Patients and Methods: This prospective randomized study was performed on (40) male patients complaining from primary infertility had been presented to urology clinics at Ain Shams University and 6th October Hospital divided into 2 groups: group A: 20 patients with normal weight and BMI range (18.5-24.9) and presented by primary infertility. group B: 20 patients with obesity and BMI (30 and above) and presented by primary infertility.
Results: Our results showed that correlation between Semen-analysis parameters &sex hormones and BMI among infertile males, there is negative significant correlation between BMI and testosterone (p <0.001) and positive nonsignificant correlation between BMI and sperm count, motile sperm, normal sperm morphology, FSH, LH, PRL and estradiol. Conclusion: obese men have decreasing total testosterone, whereas E2 levels increased and there is no significant correlation between BMI and (FSH, LH and prolactin).
