Summary
This research with the study deals with the comparison between intellectual and social issues in the two novels ”Palestine” by the writer Almas M A, who is one of the modern names who has been interested in writing the historical Urdu novel. As well ”Bilal’s Code” (Shifrat Bilal) by Ahmed Khairy Al Omari, who is one of the contemporary and brilliant names in the field of literary writing of an Islamic character.
This comparative study aims to present the different points of view in dealing with the common issues between the two novels, how each writer discussed them, the way to address them, and to clarify the claim that each writer calls through his novel.
The study also aims to uncover the symbol dimensions within the two novels, which each writer used as the title of his novel to provide a specific meaning within it.
The study relied on an integrative approach, which helps in clarifying the previous objectives. This study was divided into two parts:
The first section: It came under the title (Intellectual Issues between the Two Novels, a Comparative Study)
It was divided into four sections, preceded by a brief introduction to the definition of the novel in general, followed by a brief summary of the two writers, then a summary of the events of the Palestinian novel. It was followed by a summary of Bilal’s code novel, and the previous summaries were followed by discussions of the topics of the first part of the study as follows:
The first topic - under the title (Atheism in the Western World, Its Origin and History). In it, it provided a history of the emergence of atheism in the West, starting from the first indications of the monks’ interest in philosophy in the first century until the emergence of modern theories in the eighteenth century. It began to promote to atheism by some of them such as charles Darwin, and the spread of writings calling for atheism such as the writings of Nietzsche and Sigmund Freud. Then it moved to talk about modern atheism in the nineteenth century, which was promoted by Einstein, then contemporary atheism in the twentieth century, which represents Richard Dawkins, the most prominent of his fellows, followed by the conclusion of the topic.
The second topic - and it is entitled (Atheism between psychological Pressure and Family Upbringing). In it, it dealt with atheism through the different points of view of each of the two writers. First, it started with presenting the point of view of the writer, Almas M A, under the title (Psychological Pressure, Family Upbringing, and their Relationship to Atheism). Through the title, I spoke about the protagonist and the owner of the issue (Azim), and I began to monitor and analyze his life and all the psychological crises that he went through, and the difficult social conditions that made him ready to drift in the stream of atheism. Then I moved to present the viewpoint of the writer Ahmed Khairy Al Omari under the title (Family Upbringing and Its Relation to Atheism), and began by defining the hero of his issue (Amjad Al Halawani). Then I tracked everything that the character presented to us about the circumstances of his upbringing, which made us know and put our hands on the reasons that made him an atheist character by birth.
As for the third topic - it is entitled (Journey from Atheism to Faith). I presented in it the journey of the two heroes of the two novels; whether from atheism to faith, or from atheism to doubt to certainty.
The fourth topic - and it came under the title (Semiotics of the Title and Narrative Speech). In it, I dealt with the definition of the term semiotics and its approach, followed by an explanation of the title, its definition and its importance for any literary work. Then I applied it to the cover of the two novels and explained the aim of each of the two authors in terms of using the symbol in the title of their novels.
As for the second part of the study: it came under the title (Social Issues between the Two Novels, a Comparative Study). It was divided into three topics, which are as follows:
The first topic - entitled (Racism and Immigration are two sides go together historically). First, the topic began: with a definition of both racism and immigration, then I explained what the writer Almas M A presented on the issues of immigration and racism within the city of Pakistan after the events of the division, which he was merely referring to it without going into details. The writer ends it by using the symbol to express his wish in seeing all the regions and cities of Pakistan in union and alliance. Then I presented what the writer Ahmed Khairy Al Omari presented in the novel Bilal’s Code (Shifrat Bilal) of the various forms of immigration and racism in the countries of Hejaz and Europe from ancient to the current era in New York.
As for the second topic - entitled (Love and Compassion between Muslims and christians), through which I presented an overview of the manifestations of mercy and affection between Muslims and christians presented by each of the two authors on the pages of each of their novels, in addition to the exchange of feelings of love between the two parties.
The third topic - entitled (Prostitution as a result of Social Pressures and its relationship to Atheism). In this topic, I dealt with this issue through the novel of Palestine only because there is no similar resonance and feedback to it in Bilal’s Code (Shifrat Bilal) novel, but we have to talk about it due to its relationship with atheism. I discussed through this topic the different social reasons of prostitution, between compelling and choice, through the female protagonist of the female novel Komal, and how this path led her to atheism as well.
Finally: The conclusion, which includes a presentation of the most important findings of this study, followed by a list of the names of the sources and references that I used in this study.
