Summary
The topic of this thesis is the cultural contexts in the poet’s book of verses and by cultural context, the researcher means each social or cultural incident that the poet experienced or that
was related to his poetry and influenced him and as a resulted was reflected in his work especially that the poet witnessed a rich and eventful period full of social and cultural events, as well as many contradictions and the multiplicity of political and religious currents. Through the extrapolation of his poetry, it is clear that it has more than one cultural context that deserve being
’followed and studied and special techniques that bear echoes of the poet’s influence by the cultures of his age and the elements of his environment like using paradox and the techniques of Cogency and dialogue.
It was extremely necessary to attempt a cultural re ding as a method to reach au the intricate cultural components that motivated the poet to use these techniques for two reasons:
One: Cultural reading revives the true value of heritage that it lost in the age of postrnodernity ; this can be achieved through the restoration of literary texts to their cultural alignments that contributed in the production of lines of meaning. The poet was surrounded by many cultural backgrounds that left a sign in his poetry, so the study adopts the method of cultural reading as a tool to shed light on these cultural backgrounds to emphasize and show them.
Two: Anyone who follows the previous studies and researches about the poetry of Bashar Ibn Burd will fmd that it only discussed the literary, figurative, linguistic and psychological sides and no one discussed his new method like cultural criticism. The writer of this research therefore wants to follow a new path in this study, so the study uses this tool to investigate cultural.
discourse in the poet’s innovation and. following the different aspects of his poetry and attempting to understand his life and poetic culture.
The nature of this study mandates that it includes two chapters preceded by an introduction and a preface and followed by a conclusion. The introduction reviews the topic of the thesis and its incentives as well as the status of the poet in poetic modernity, whereas the preface includes three themes: ·the first is a brief review to introduce the poet, his cultural and his age, and the
second is to clarify the concept of culture and the main pillars of critical reading .
The first chapter is entitled: The Culture of Paradox in Bashar Ibn Burd’s Book of Verses to unveil the structures of cogency and of dialogue and their techniques and to show how the poet employed them in his work. conclusion that recapitulates the thesis’s most important findings and it assures Bashar’s aim to elevate his poetic art adopting specific techniques like paradox, Cogency and dialogue as a method to express his idea with artistic scenic formulas and statements and a veil to many embedded cultural contexts behind others that are clear. This helped him in finding an outlet for himself from the hegemonic cultural context releasing his pains and fears, trying to accept his reality and bear it and make up for the inferiority complex that happened to him.
