Abstract
First part:
The starting chalcone 3 was prepared via the reaction of 4-
acetyl biphenyl (1) with 4-(dimethyl amino) benzaldehyde (2) in
ethanol in the presence of sodium hydroxide.
Nicotinonitrile derivative 4 has been synthesized by one pot
reaction of 4-acetyl biphenyl (1), 4-(dimethyl amino) benzaldehyde
(2) and malononitrile in the presence of ammonium acetate under
microwave irradiation, which on reaction with hydrazine hydrate
afforded the pyrazolopyridine derivative 5 (Scheme1).
