Abstract

Many students experience accidents while they are at school. Having staff who are well equipped with first aid skills contribute to enhancing the safety of the school they can apply the right procedures to prevent more damage. Aim: This study aims to evaluate the effective of first aid program for primary school teachers at Port Said City. Subject & Methods: Aquasi-experimental research design with pre& posttest was utilized for this study.Setting: The study was conducted at Mostafa Kamel primary school in El-Arab district affiliated to Port Said City. Subjects: All teachers in the prementioned school (85 teachers) were included in the study. Tools: Data were collected using two tools, first tool, a structured interview questionnaire (including personal characteristic data & knowledge about first aid) the second tool, an observation checklist to measure first aid practices of teachers. Results: The result of the present study revealed that, in the preprogram phase, the studied teachers had unsatisfactory knowledge 70.6%, also practices were inadequate 96.5%, fortunately, after program implementation, all teachers (100%) get satisfactory knowledge and adequate practices, a statistical significant correlation was found between knowledge & practices in pre&post program (p=<0.001*,0.008*).Also there waspositive significant statistical correlation between total knowledge, age and years of experience of the studied group preprogram phases where P= (0.008-0.008).The practice regarding first aid throughout educational program was the most predictor (effect) variable on knowledge of the study group where p= (<0.001). Conclusions: The study concluded that, after implementation of first-aid program for school teachers improved their knowledge and practice. knowledge was a positive predictor in teachers’ practices pre & post program. Recommendation: Implementation of first aid program is highly recommended for all school teachers to enhance their knowledge and practices. Further research needed to assess the impact of such programs on school health safety and child health.
