Abstract Background: Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease with a strong genetic predisposition and autoimmune pathogenic traits. The burden of psoriasis across many world regions is high and there is a recognized need to better understand the epidemiology of this common skin disorder. Aim of the work: to explore the prevalence of psoriasis among a sample of preparatory school students in Sinnoris district, Fayoum governorate with determination of its possible risk factors. Patients and methods: The current study is a cross sectional study including 3061 preparatory school students, who are selected from 5 rural public preparatory schools in Fayoum; Sennoris district. The data were collected by a questionnaire sheet which was fulfilled from each student including full history taking, assessment of psoriasis and severity of psoriasis using Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) score and detection of other dermatological diseases. Results: The prevalence of psoriasis was 0.1% of all examined student in the study with female to male ratio 3 to 1. There was a positive family history of psoriasis of first‐degree relatives with ratio about 50% in the students with psoriasis. The extent of psoriasis ranged according to BSA from mild to moderate psoriasis. According to PASI score, all of the patients were classified as mild psoriasis. Conclusion: This study found a low prevalence of psoriasis (0.1%) among rural preparatory school students in Fayoum; Sennoris district.
