Abstract Throughout the Pharaonic periods, Egyptian shipbuilding witnessed various fastening methods in ships during their evolution. This research will present an analytical study of fastening methods in ancient Egyptian shipbuilding from the Early Dynastic Period to the end of Late Period depending on the direct evidence represents in the archaeological ships. Besides, the indirect evidence represents in the iconographic evidence, which are paintings and reliefs scenes on wall tombs. In addition to the epigraphic and literally evidence represents in inscriptions, writings and the ancient historians who described essentially the ancient Egyptian method of shipbuilding and the new features appeared in fastening method with wood and components of assembling and construction. - The researcher followed his evidence chronologically through those three chapters which are: chapter I presents the fastening methods in shipbuilding from the Early Dynastic to the Old Kingdom, chapter II presents the fastening methods in shipbuilding in the Middle Kingdom and chapter III present the fastening methods in shipbuilding from the New Kingdom to the end of Late Period. At the end of the research, the researcher presented conclusion content of the analytical results of his research which deals with the aims and provided the common features of fastening methods related for each period and highlights of the different methods that used in all ships and which of them continues and which was absent in later periods, in addition to the table for each chapter showing the common methods and table of the dimensions of all fastening methods in all Egyptian ships during Pharaonic periods from early kingdom to the late period. |
