Abstract
The present study aimed at investigating the effectiveness of a program based on Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL) approach in developing second preparatory school students’ writing skills and attitudes toward writing. The study sample consisted of sixty second preparatory students chosen randomly from two schools in Damietta governorate and was divided into two groups: experimental group (N = 30) and a control one (N = 30).
The researcher prepared a writing skills questionnaire to identify the appropriate writing skills needed for second preparatory students. A writing skills pre-post test was administered to the two groups to measure their writing performance before and after implementing the program. Moreover, a pre-post writing attitude scale was implemented on the subjects to compare their attitudes before and after the experiment.
A Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL) program was applied to the experimental group for seven weeks using mobile phones while the control group was taught using the traditional method. The results showed that the experimental group outperformed the control group in writing skills. In addition, using the MALL program managed to develop experimental group students’ positive attitudes toward writing.
