Abstract The present study was carried out at the laboratory of fish, Faculty of Agriculture, Benha University. The experiment started on 1 March 2018 and continued until 28 May of the same year (84 days). A 2×3 factorial experiment was designed to study the effect of Bacillus acidophilus (0.0, 1.47×107 kg-1 diet) as probiotic and (potassium diformate, KDF) (0.0, 5 g and 10 g kg-1 diet) as organic acid and their interactions growth, nutrient utilization, pH of stomach, gut, hematological, serum biochemical parameters, intestinal histomorphometric examination and chemical proximate analysis of whole-body fish of Nile tilapia (Oerocromis niloticus). The experimental design was outlined as follows: 1- T1 control diet not have B. acidophilus (CFU kg-1 diet) or KDF 2- T2 diet containing 1.47 ×107 B. acidophilus (CFU kg-1 diet) 3- T3 diet containing 5 g KDF kg-1 diet 4- T4 diet containing 1.47 ×107 B. acidophilus (CFU kg-1 diet) and 5 g KDF kg-1 diet 5- T5 diet containing 10 g KDF kg-1 diet 6- T6 diet containing 1.47 ×107 B. acidophilus (CFU kg-1 diet) and 10 g KDF kg-1 diet. Therefore, fish were randomly distributed into twelve cylindrical plastic tanks (500 m3 for each). Thirty fish (4.29(g) ± 0.06) were randomly stocked into each cylindrical tank with two replications for each treatment. Results obtained could be summarized as follows: - The highest FBW, WG and SGR was obtained by fish fed diet containing 1.47×107 CFU B. acidophilus kg-1 diet and 10 g KDF kg-1 (T6). - A linear regression was found between increasing the inclusion level of KDF irrespective of B. acidophilus addition and increasing FBW, WG and SGR. - The higher feed intake was recorded by fish fed the experimental diets containing Bacillus acidophilus at 5 g KDF kg-1 diet. - The best value of FCR (1.74) was obtained by fish fed diet containing B. acidophilus (1.47×107 CFU kg-1 diet) at 10 g KDF kg-1 diet. - The highest PER value was recorded by fish of T5 (1.83) and T6 (1.99) fed the diets containing 10 g KDF kg-1 and B. acidophilus (1.47×107 CFU kg-1 diet) at 10 g KDF kg-1 with insignificant difference. - Interaction between KDF and B. acidophilus significantly (P < 0.05) affected the stomach and gut pH and the lowest stomach and gut pH were recorded by fish of T5 and T6 which fed diet supplemented with (10 g KDF kg-1 diet) and 10 g KDF kg-1 diet and 1.47×107 CFU Kg-1), respectively. |
