The traditional role of educational and learning process in our Arab society is indoctrination, filling students’ minds with information, theories and design tests mostly measure remember skills only. this situation, in spite of the cognitive widespread which the world facing and witnessed it.
Thus, it becomes necessary for the educational institutions to abandon its’ traditional role in educating process and pursue other philosophies, help in creating cognitive and human capital, that participates in developing society.
In this perspective, this study aimed to stand upon the primary factors which support the activation of critical thinking skills in the preparatory school, this will lead to a deep comprehend to the cognitive content, and to distinguish between facts and allegations, impartiality, the disclosure of the principles and the assumptions, and evaluate the allegations, in order to challenge the intellectual closure, opinion extremism, and unilateralism.
Method of the study:
This study relies up on different methodologies of search such as: Critical Analysis to analysis of the cultural and educational context of critical thinking in the Arab society, and ethnography methodology, to obtain information on the preparatory school community, and to have a real frame of the preparatory school role in developing the critical thinking skills for its students, and to reach for a deep analysis and more accurate interpretation by Participant observation & interviews with teachers.
This study concluded:
•The daily cultural context in Arab society does not support to develop students’ critical thinking skills.
•Most of the preparatory school teachers are not aware of the importance of developing the critical thinking skills of their students.
•Lack of investment opportunities to develop critical thinking skills through curriculum subjects.
•Inadequate school climate that supports the development of critical thinking skills.
•Reliance on one criteria to evaluate students , which is the final achievement exams, which are mostly based on questions that measure the skills of remembering , and move away from what raises critical thinking skills.
