Abstract Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of a microencapsulated blend of essential oils on ruminal fermentation parameters (1st experiment) using the in vitro gas production method, and on milk production performance of dairy cows (2nd experiment). At the In vitro experiment, graded levels of a microencapsulated blend of essential oils (MBEO) was added at 0 (control), 0.05 (low), and 0.25 (high) g/kg DM to the three experimental proportions of concentrate/ roughage diets (75:25 (HC), 25:75 (LC) and 55:45 (MC) of concentrate: roughage ratio, respectively) using the semi-automatic system of GP technique for 24 hours. Rumen content was collected from freshly slaughtered three Egyptian buffaloes used as inoculum donors. The experimental parameters were nutrient degradability, gas production, pH, NH3-N, PF and total protozoal count. The results of the 1st experiment could summarize as follows: 1- The overall means of gas production values of GP either related to incubated dry matter and TDOM were not differed among treatments, however effects of diet type and interaction between diet and treatments were significantly detected (P < 0.05). 2- The MBEO supplementation had no effect on TDOM compared to control, while LC diet decreased (P<0.05) TDOM compared to MC diet. 3- The PF was not affected by different levels of MBEO compared to control, while LC diet increased (P<0.05) the PF compared to HC diet. 4- The pH ranged from 6.34 to 6.45 and the different levels of MBEO supplementation to different levels of concentrate/roughage ratio did not affect pH values. 5- Ammonia-N concentration was decreased significantly (P< 0.05) with different levels of MBEO compared to control. The LC diet decreased (P<0.05) Ammonia-N concentration compared to HC and MC diet. 6- The protozoa count was not affected by MBEO supplementation compared to control, while low concentrate increased total protozoa significantly compared to HC and MC. The in vivo experiment was conducted at (Talaat Moustafa Farm) which located at El-Nubaria City, Behera Governorate, Egypt during November, 2014 to February, 2014. The objectives of this study were to investigate the effect of dietary supplementation of the MBEO on dry matter. |
