Abstract This study investigated the effect of using Literature on enhancing 6th Primary stage pupils’ EFL critical reading skills. A randomly selected group of the 6th year Primary stage pupils (N=40) received training throughout a proposed program based on using literature to enhance critical reading skills. A pre-posttest was designed and applied to the group before and after the implementation of the proposed program. The test aimed to determine to what extent the sixth- year primary school pupils master the seven main critical reading skills. Results of the study indicated that literature has an effect on promoting EFL critical reading skills. The study recommended that critical reading skills need to be developed in early stages. In addition, curriculum designers should make the best use of the novels that the pupils study every year. The right curriculum should evoke EFL pupils thoughts in order to develop their critical reading skills. Keywords: literature, critical reading |
