Abstract

The present thesis introduces a new procedure to obtain the critical buckling loads in several cases of flat rectangular plates with different boundary conditions and loading forms. This procedure has the advantage of simplicity and easiness to use compared to the relevant methods found in literature. Moreover, it has been proven that the proposed procedure gives both good results and acceptable accuracy. Models of Ansys-14.5 ® have been used for certificating the results.
The present work offers also a procedure of getting the critical buckling loads in the case of non-rectangular shapes of flat plates such as trapezoidal, hexagonal, elliptical, and even any form of irregular shapes. Finally, our proposed method has been successfully used to get the critical buckling loads in some applications in mechanical and civil engineering such as cams and corrugated webs.
This thesis consists of eight chapters and three appendices with a list of figures, tables, symbols, and references:‎
Chapter 1: This introductory chapter shows ‎the target of this work. It focuses on the scope of this thesis and ‎clarifies its organization flow and the most required information for ‎the buckling and deflection of plates.‎
Chapter 2: This chapter contains a historical background on the subject of study and pervious works.
Chapter 3: This chapter presents information about the buckling ‎of rectangular plates with no free edges. It contains a ‎discussion about some of the results reached concerning the new derived formulas of the critical buckling loads of ‎the plates. A comparison with the relevant results in literature has been performed. ‎
‎Chapter 4: This chapter includes information about the buckling ‎of the rectangular plates with free edges. It describes the new methodology used in the present work to get proper formulas for critical buckling loads. The obtained results are discussed in details. A comparison with the relevant results in literature has revealed the accuracy of our proposed procedure.
Chapter 5: This chapter presents mainly the application of our procedure to get the critical buckling loads in cases of rectangular plates under non-uniform loads.
Chapter 6: This chapter contains information about the buckling ‎of the non-rectangular plates such as trapezoidal, hexagonal, and elliptical. It describes the new procedure used in the present work for getting the critical buckling loads in such cases.
Chapter 7: This chapter illustrates the use of our proposed procedure in mechanical and civil engineering applications such as cams and corrugated plates and webs.
Chapter 8: This chapter presents the most important conclusions reached in this work and some recommended future work.
