Abstract

Nurses are human beings who need to be reward for their great job in reducing the suffering of patients and saving lives at least with a thankful word to absorb their stresses during their work and allow them to be motivated to perform a high standard of care, work harder, and move along with their career. The unmotivated staff has a bad effect on the delivery of care of patients and the quality of care. Empowerment plays a crucial role in bringing up positive changes in any profession and professionals and in society as a whole. The outcome of authorization, for nursing and nurses, is within the variety of increased job satisfaction, reinforced commitment towards the organization they add, and increased retention, and productivity in achieving the organizational goals.
The aim of this study was to explore the relationship between motivating work factors and empowerment among staff nurses through identifying motivating work factors as perceived by staff nurses, assessing sources of empowerment among staff nurses and finding out the relationship between motivating work factors and empowerment among staff nurses.
This study carried out using a descriptive correlational design. It conducted at Met Ghamer Hospital. This Hospital affiliated to the Ministry of Health. The study subjects consisted of 140 staff nurse eligible to participate in the study. The data collected by using two tools: Motivating work factor questionnaire sheet, it developed by (Ellis, 2000), and consisted of seven factors related to motivating work factors it includes (34) items under seven domains. The second tool was the Condition for work effectiveness questionnaire sheet, it developed by (Laschinger, 2001) and aims at identifying empowerment sources among staff nurses. It includes 38 statements.
The results of this study have shown the following most important findings:
• The majority of studied subjects had low perception regarding salary factor, 80.7% regarding the available transportation facilities factor from work, 83.6 %, over time and monetary benefits and 75.0% regarding the available nursery.
• 95% of the studied subjects had low perception regarding motivating work factors.
• 96.4% of the studied subjects had low perception regarding sources of empowerment.
There were highly statistically significant positive correlations between motivating work factors and the sources of empowerment (P< 0.001*).
Conclusion:
The majority of the studied subjects had low perception regarding motivating work factors. The lowest score was work facilities while the highest score was regarding job security. Also, the majority of the studied subjects had a low level of empowerment, the lowest score was regarding information while the highest score was regarding resources.
There were a statistically significant relationship between staff nurses qualification and their perception regarding motivating work factors, and there were no statistically significant relationship between staff nurses demographic characteristics and the empowerment levels. Moreover, there were highly statistically significant positive correlations between motivating work factors and the sources of empowerment.
Recommendation:
Based upon the results of the current study the following recommendations suggested:
• Developing job description for each position in the nursing department and disseminated it to all nurses.
• Periodical medical checkup for all nurses.
• Available vaccinations recommended to offer for nurses.

Assessing the relationship between staff nurses empowerment and leadership behavior among head nurses.
