Abstract The number of cancer patients has doubled in recent years, which has given a significant role to the methods of treatment in the reduction and resistance of the disease, including radiation therapy. Radiotherapy is used to treat 45% of cancer patients. The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the distribution of radiation doses in the conventional and congruent treatment planning system. The treatment planning system is one of the most important tools used in radiotherapy. This thesis is divided into four chapters: Chapter 1: It includes an introduction to radiotherapy with different types of conventional and conformal treatment. Chapter 2: This chapter includes the definition of how radiation is used in the treatment of tumors and its impact on infected cells as well as healthy. And also explain where the errors come in radiation therapy It reviews the benefits of conformal radiotherapy to the patient. A number of studies have been conducted in the past to assess the radiotherapy planning system. Chapter 3: The first part of this chapter describes the tools used in the radiation dosimetry processes of the linear accelerator (VARIAN Model CD 2300) Multi-energy (6 & 18) MV. In the second part, ten computational tests were calculated in which the radiation doses using the therapeutic planning system (Eclipse Planning System). Chapter 4: It presents the results of this study, which is divided into two parts in the first part. The results of the comparisons between the measurement of the distribution of radiation doses in several different radiation fields, including simple geometries such as rectangular and square fields representing the state of conventional therapy. Also, geometrically complex fields such as fields (inclined, heterogeneous and protected) represent the case of conformal treatment. These results are compared with theoretical calculations on the treatment planning system (Eclipse T.P.S) and this under the same conditions and factors for practical measurements and theoretical calculations. |
