Abstract

Abstract
This paper is the first study that focuses on realization of Apology speech patterns of Egyptian learners of Korean language. The Study aimed at analyzing Apology speech act patterns of Egyptian learners of Korean language, and comparing them with those of Korean native speakers and Egyptian native speakers to show whether Egyptian learners of Korean language have similar features of Koreans or Egyptians.
Thus, it performed on native Egyptians, native Koreans and Egyptian learners of Korean language. It collected Data using written DCT (Discourse Completion Test) that consisted of 24 situations electing apology about material, physical and emotional harm & considering the social variables of the social rank, intimacy and pressure degree.
This research consists of three chapters and the conclusion in which:
Chapter 1 introduces the purpose of the study and discuses its methodology. It also shows the method and the subject of the survey.
Chapter 2 examines previous studies that focused on the apology act in Korean and Arabic. In addition, it discusses the speech act theory, the politeness theory and then it explains the act of apology and its strategies.
Chapter 3 discusses the results of the survey analysis. The first part examines the difference of apology act uses among the three groups according to the type of damage. The second part examines the difference of apology act uses among the three groups according to the social variables of the social rank, intimacy and pressure degree.
The conclusion shows the results of the study and its limitations.
According to the results, the Egyptian learners of Korean language used apology strategies similar to both of Egyptian’s apology style and Korean apology style, which means that these learners’ apology style has the characteristics of Interlanguage.
