Abstract

Pregnancy is one of the most important events that constitute powerful experience in women’s lives and indeed in the lives of their families. Antenatal care is the care provided from conception until the beginning of labor. The antenatal care should be early detection and treatment of abnormalities, promote Health mother and fetus. Goal of antenatal care is to maintain mother’s well-being and achieve healthy outcome for both mother and baby.
Quality of care is determined by the knowledge and skills of the nurse’s assessment. In order to deliver high quality of care, the nurse must be able to perform effectively and must be competent in the application of theory & skills in the clinical situation.
Nurse should provide optimal and individualized care for pregnant mother according to women’s needs and the effect of pregnancy changes on her health.
The present study aimed to assess the nursing performance to meet client’s satisfaction regarding antenatal care in MCH centers. This study conducted at three MCH centers at Shoubra ELKhima district.There MCH centers were chosen randomly 3 MCH centers (Nobar MCH, Begam

MCH, Osman MCH) at Shoubra El Khima district. The study included two subjects were all nurses working in the previous MCH centers were 35 nurses and 150 pregnant women.
The data collection consists of two tools:
Two tools were used for data collection the first one was a structured questionnaire sheet which assessed: personal and socio demographic data about nurses, nurses’ knowledge regarding antenatal care and personal and socio demographic data about pregnant women, obstetric history which included: past history and present history, antenatal follow up and likert scale which monitor women satisfaction with component of antenatal care. The second tool was an observation checklist to observe actual nursing performance in ante-natal care clinic. While the second tool was observational checklist designed to collect nurse’s data about nursing practice during antenatal observed nurses’ skills, it includes four items; communication, taking history, taking vital signs, and measuring height and weight.
The main findings of this study generally revealed the following:
 There was a positive correlation between Knowledge of antenatal care nurses and (age, marital status, qualification, experience and MCH training).

 There was a positive significant correlation between nurses’ knowledge and their practice.
 The majority of the study subjects (86.6 %) were unsatisfied with the performance of the nurses in MCH centers. While only (14.3%) of them had satisfied.
The study recommended the following:
 Periodic training program for training of the nurses at maternal and child health center is recommended as it may improve their knowledge and improve training courses of the providers to upgrades their communication and consequently raise the quality level.
 Different health education methods should be available to increase awareness of the pregnant women about the importance and components of antenatal care.
 Application of nursing care standards in antenatal unit to improve maternal and child health care.
