Abstract

This study was conducted prospectively on 60 patients diagnosed with sepsis and septic shock (30 ventilated and 30 non ventilated) admitted at the ICU of Abassia chest hospital. The study included 45 males & 15 females, with mean age (47.40±14.49) . IVC diameters and IVC CI were measured by US in correlation with CVP
from the present study, the following results were obtained:
 IVC dmax measured by US correlated positively with CVP in ventilated and non ventilated patients with sepsis and septic shock . Increased IVC diameter was associated with increased CVP.
 IVC collapsability index correlated negatively with CVP in ventilated and non ventilated patients with sepsis and septic shock.
 IVC dmax, IVC collapsibility index and CVP were a good predictor for mortality in patients with sepsis and septic shock Increased serum lactic acid, CPR and Pao2 / FIO2 were associated with increased morality in sepsis and septic shock.
 Also, SOFA score and APACHE II score were positively correlated with increased mortality in sepsis and septic shock.
