Abstract

The current thesis highlights the application of diverse nanocarriers in the management of skin disorders such as skin cancer.
<Skin cancer is considered to be one of the most common forms of cancer in populations with light-skin. Wide increase was observed in recent decades in number of patients especially in developing countries.
<Clinical use of ETD orIMQ as conventional formulationsfor skin cancer managementfails to achieve the desired clinical effect.
< This may be attributed totheir poor water solubility, which leads to limited bioavailability in addition to high protein binding, and low penetration potential.
As a result, frequent high doses are required, increasing risk of gastrointestinal, renal, and cardiac adverse effects and patient incompliance. Skin played an increasingly important role as a non-invasive and effective route for both local and systemic drug administrations. Interestingly, the penetration depth of different formulations across the hair follicle is primarily dependent on the particle size.
Nano-formulations with diameter 320 nm were observed to reside in the hair follicle for 10 days; indicating the ability ofthe hair follicle to act as drug reservoir for controlled release site-targeted dermal applications.
In the light of this information, the use of nanocarriers seems beneficial.The objective of this thesis was to prepare and evaluate various ETD and IMQ-loaded nanocarriers for their potential to enhance thedeliveryof these drugs to skin and implement chemoprevention and treatment of skin cancer.
