Abstract

The study was conducted on 18 apparently healthy mongrel male dogs with an age ranged from 1-2 years old, with body weight ranged between 15-23 kg . The present study was carried out in the Department of Surgery Anesthesiology and Radiology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Zagazig University under the basis of its committee of animal welfare and research ethics (ZU-IACUC/2/F/2/2019) .
Animals were classified into two main groups open cholecystectomy (OC) and laparoscopic one (LC), each group was subdivided into three subgroups according to the time of euthanasia .
Pre and postoperative physical, ultrasonographic examinations, hematological and serum anaylsis were done on experimental dogs, Postmortem examination in addition to histopathological examination of the removed representative samples of the inflamed surgical area at day 7, 21, 30 postoperatively were done .
Concerning the first group (OC), about 8 cm ventral midline celiotomy , more manipulation and handling of internal organs therefore more tissue damage and increased surgical stress.
Regarding the second group (LC), direct visualization of the internal organs through small incisions each of 1 cm , less handling and traction of abdominal organs, there was no use of tampons on viscera or need for retraction of the abdominal wall.
