Abstract The present work was carried out to study the pharmacokinetic profile of Dox following a single oral dose in African catfish. Another goal was to study the antibacterial activity of doxycycline against Aeromonas hydrophila bacteria both in vitro and in vivo. The present study was carried out at the wet lab. of Central Laboratory for Aquaculture Research CLAR, Abbassa, Abou-Hammad, Sharkia, Egypt, during the year 2018. A total number of 130 apparently healthy African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) with an average body weight 100 ±5 gm, which had not been previously exposed to antibiotics, were distributed randomly at a rate of 5 fish/100-L aquarium. Fish were fed formulated fish diet 35% protein once daily at a rate of 3% of body weight, extra feed was withdrawn by aspiration. Feeding stopped two days prior to the experiment. Then, fish received the therapeutic dose of Dox, 20 mg/kg b.wt., in feed. |
