Thesis Title: Air Ports in Libya - A Study on the Geography of Air Transportation
Student / Mounira Mohamed Ammar Al-Taweel
The thesis studies the 10 international air ports that are located in Libya through four chapters as follows:
First Chapter: The Geographical Distribution of International Air Ports in Libya This chapter discusses the origin and geographical distribution of air ports in Libya. It categorizes the air ports according to their origin, location, area, design, function, capacity, internal formation and the services provided by them.
Second Chapter: Factors that Affect International Air Ports in Libya
This chapter reviews the factors that have an impact on international air ports in Libya which are divided into two categories; natural factors and human factors. Each category is treated as both a factor in itself and an effective factor on air ports. The natural factors that are tackled by the study are represented in the geographical location, surface aspects, and geographical formation. The study also reviews different climate elements which directly affect air ports such as temperature, pressure, wind and rain. As for the human factors, they included studies on population distribution, man power, political factors, and roads network.
Third Chapter: Traffic in International Air Ports in Libya
This chapter is divided into three parts. The first part tackles international air ports network in Libya through studying the aviation territory, land support centers, and air routes. Meanwhile, the second part reviews traffic in international air ports in Libya from 2000 to 2015, and divides it into four categories; planes traffic
passengers traffic, cargo traffic, and mail traffic. Whereas the third part discusses traffic in international air ports in Libya in 2016, and also divides it into four categories; planes traffic, passengers traffic, cargo traffic, and mail traffic. Moreover, it compared between current air ports in terms of the volume, type and direction of the traffic.
Fourth Chapter: Problems and Future Vision of International Air Ports in Libya
This chapter is divided into three axes. The first axis reviews the problems resulted from aviation movement via international air ports in Libya. These problems are represented in environmental pollution, either air or noise pollution, and the impacts of air ports on the surrounding urban areas. The second axis tackles the problems faced by international air ports in Libya such as high transportation costs, flight delays, and shortages of port services. Finally the third axis discusses the future of international air ports in Libya through presenting means of rehabilitating and evaluating current air ports and establishing new international air ports.
