Abstract Aim of this study was to assess QoL of children undergoing open heart surgery. Design instructional guidelines to improve the QOL for children undergoing open heart surgery. Evaluate the outcomes. Settings. The study was carried out in two settings were selected from all hospital have an open heart surgery unit for pediatric in Cairo governorate. Research design was a quasi experimental design. The subjects of the study were a purpose sample consisted of 120 child who were undergoing to open heart surgery took through a multistage technique within Cairo governorate the inclusive criteria children aged from 6-12 years ,having congenital heart disease and undergoing open heart surgery from the previously mentioned settings. Tools of data collection a pre-designed questionnaire , anxiety-depressive scale and Quality of life rating scale followed by implementation instructional guideline Results revealed that there was highly significant between pre and post Instructional guideline regarding QoL of physical, social, psychological and functional status Conclusion the study could concluded that children undergoing open heart surgery who exposed to the instructional guidelines experienced better QoL. Recommendation: Periodic training are required to improve knowledge about QoL in open heart surgery . Key words : Instructional guidelines – QOL- School age children – Open heart surgery |
