Abstract

Diabetes mellitus are important public health concerns though out the world because of their increasing incidence and prevalence.
The present study aimed to investigate the Effect of Tomato and Guava juices on Oxidative Stress in Diabetic Rats after Strenuous Exercise on:
 Lipid profile fractions in serum blood from rats induced to diabetes with strenuous exercise such as total cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL-c. LDL-c and VLDL-c, HDL/LDL ratio in serum blood from rats induced to diabetes with strenuous exercise.
 Glucose in serum blood from rats induced to diabetes with strenuous exercise.
 Body weight gain, feed intake and relation weight of some organs.
 Kidney function test in serum blood from rats induced to diabetes with strenuous exercise.
 Liver function in serum blood from rats induced to diabetes with strenuous exercise.
 Glutathione in serum blood from rats induced to diabetes with strenuous exercise. Superoxide dismutase in serum blood from rats induced to diabetes with strenuous exercise.
 Insulin in serum blood from rats induced to diabetes with strenuous exercise.
 Histopathoiogical characteristics of some organs in the experimental rats in serum blood from rats induced to diabetes with strenuous exercise.
56 male Albino rats were purchased from the National Research center, every eight rats placed in a cage and a well-ventilated and be weights 200+-10 gm
Rats were divided into two groups:
The rats were separated into two main groups as follows:
-The first main group:
Control negative group (1): consists of 8 rats fed on the basal diet.
-The second main group:
The second main group consists of 48 rats, injected firstly with alloxan (1.5 ml/kg) to induced diabetes mellitus and divided into six sub groups as following:.
-Control positive sub group (1): fed on the basal diet only and sedentary.Control positive sub group (2): fed on the basal diet only and subjected to strenuous exercises.
-Sub-group treatment (3): fed on the basal diet plus 5ml/day guava (G) juice and subjected to strenuous exercises.
-Sub-group treatment (4): fed on the basal diet plus 10ml/day guava juice and subjected to strenuous exercises.
-Sub-group treatment (5): fed on the basal diet plus 5ml/day Tomato juice and subjected to strenuous exercises.
-Sub-group treatment (6): fed on the basal diet plus10 ml/day Tomato juice and subjected to strenuous exercises.
After 6 weeks, animals were sacrificed after 12 hours fasting. Blood samples were collected and obtained from the hepatic portal veins.
Results could be summarized as follows:
Initial weight, Gain weight %, Food consumed in control positive group (diabetes without exercise) was statistical significant increase, as compared to control negative group (healthy group). On contrast, Final weight and FER in control negative group (healthy group) were statistical significant increase, as compared to control positive group (without strenuous exercise).
All groups tended to have the same results for gain weight%. Even, there was no significant differences were observed between them.
All treated groups with high or low doses and Diabetes with exercise of tested fruits juice tended to have the same results for Final weight and FER Even, there was no significant differences were observed between them. Also, Groups of tomato juice with high or low doses tended to have the same results for Food consumed. Even, there was no significant differences were observed between them.
Liver Weight, Kidney Weight, Heart Weight in control positive group (diabetes without exercise) was statistical significant increase, as compared to control negative group (healthy group).
Groups of guava juice with high or low doses tended to have the same results for Heart Weight. Even, there was no significant differences were observed between them. Also, Groups of tomato juice with high or low doses tended to have the same results for kidney weight and heart weight. Even, there was no significant differences were observed between them.
Control positive group tended to have total cholesterol, triglyceride, LDL-c and VLDL-c higher than control negative group. Even, there was significant differences were observed between them. On contrast, HDL-c was increase in control negative group as compared to control positive group.
All treated groups with different doses of fruits juice with strenuous exercise tended to have total cholesterol and triglyceride lower than control positive group. Even, there was significant differences were observed between them.
All treated diabetic with strenuous exercise groups with high or low doses of fruits juice had the same results for triglyceride and LDL-c. Even, there was no significant differences were observed between them.
The current results showed that Psidium guava administration could decrease triglycerides, cholesterol, VLDL and LDL cholesterol and also increase HDL cholesterol.
Control positive group (injected with alloxan) have blood glucose higher than its counterparts in control negative group (healthy group). It may be due to diabetes arises from destruction of B-cell due to the toxic effect of alloxan.
All treated groups with both of tested fruit juices tended to have the same results for glucose after injected with alloxan. Even, there was no significant differences were observed between them. Control positive group (without exercise) has significant differences for glucose pre and post higher than control negative group. Control positive group tended to have both AST and ALT enzymes higher than control negative group and all treated groups. It may be due to the reason behind the elevation of these enzymes could be due to direct hepatotoxic effect of fatty acid on the liver when it is produced in excess.
All treated samples with tomato and guava juice have AST and ALT enzymes lower than control positive group. It may be due to tomato and guava contains three major phytochemical constituents: reducing sugar, alkaloids and flavonoid.
All treated diabetic groups with strenuous exercise tended to have creatinine; urea and uric acid levels lower than control positive groups. Even, significant differences were observed between then. This due to the fact that, creatinine, active compounds in guava and tomato that play a role in lowering uric acid level are vitamin C, polyphenols, and flavonoids.
