Abstract
The present study was performed to investigate the effect of progesterone compared to minocycline on MMP-9 activity, Evans blue dye extravasation, apoptosis, gray matter and white matter injuries and motor functions after transient middle cerebral artery occlusion. This study was performed on 96 male wister rats 8 weeks old weighted (200-250) gm. The animals were divided into 4 groups each contains 24 ratsgroup 1: for gelatin zymography. group 2: for Evans blue extravasation assessment.group 3: for histopathological studies: in which the following histopathological studies were donea. Immunohistochemistry of ionized calcium binding adapter molecule 1 (Iba-1) Kluver-Barrera staining (for detection of white matter injury). Haematoxylin and eosin staining (for gray matter injury detection). Cresyl violet staining (for observing the extent of area of cerebral infarction).e. Apoptotic cell staining (TUNEL assay).group 4: for behavioral assessment.
