Abstract

Digital storytelling integrates the art of storytelling with technology available in the twentyfirst century classroom. The aim of the current study was twofold: firstly, to investigate the effect of digital storytelling on learners’ oral proficiency, and secondly, to determine learners’ satisfaction with the program. The research employed a quasi-experimental design in which eight first-year students at Zewail University of science and Technology participated in the study that lasted for five weeks. The instruments for data collection constituted a pre/ post speaking test, a questionnaire, an interview, and students’ written reflections. The results of the statistical analyses displayed that the program had a statistically significant effect on learners’ oral performance. It was also revealed that the learners were satisfied with the program. Pedagogical implications of the program and suggestions for further research were provided.
