Abstract

The Aquaponic is an integrated system consists of Aquaculture and Hydroponic to produce fish meet and organic crops at the same system it’s a new system of cultivation for fish production and getting forage crops without any chemicals or heavy elements with rationalization the water consumption in this system where fish and plants grow in a mutually symbiotic relationship.
Aquaculture is one of the methods that are used to produce high density of fish.
Hydroponic unit have two important functions first is allow the water to flow through the plant roots to supply the nutrients necessary either second function: is to provide a mechanical support to plant growth and it is considered as one of a new engineering techniques (Phytoremediation) which using green plants to remove pollutants from the water.
The experiment was started at 2013 located in Giza Governorate (Agricultural Engineering Research Institute) by setup and constructed the system and test it to study the effect of the amount of seeds with the duration of the water inside the trays and aeration on the barley yield, properties and the percentage of reduction pollutant.
The treatments under study were: the quantity of seeds (1.5 and 2.5 kg/m2), the water duration inside the trays (3 and 5 days), and with (aeration or without aeration).
The obtained results can be summarized as follows:
(A) Pollutant reduction %:
1. COD concentration
There was a difference in effluent COD concentration which come from the hydroponics system during the growth period of barley, as well as different depending on seed quantity and during the water duration inside the trays, where it was the highest percentage reduction in COD in the treatment of 2.5kg/m2 and time duration for 5 days with aeration was ranged from 24.34 - 49.61%
2. Concentration of total solids (TS)
TS concentration in effluent water come outside of the hydroponics unit decrease more than the influent, the highest value of TS reduction was in treatment 2.5kg/m2 and time duration for 5 days with aeration was range between 18.18 - 48.27%.
3. Nitrogen concentration (N)
Increasing in element consumption of nitrogen during plant growing, as well as increase the seed quantity, the highest value of the reduction percentage for nitrogen found in the treatment of 2.5kg/m2 and time duration 5 days with aeration was ranged between 58.06 -78.63%.
4. Concentration of phosphorus (P)
Increasing in nitrogen consumption of during plant growing, and the height seed quantity, the highest value of the reduction percentage for nitrogen was with the treatment of 2.5kg/m2 and time duration 5 days with aeration was ranged between 65.4-93.49%.
5. Concentration of potassium (K)
The highest value of the pollution reduction in the potassium found in treatment of 2.5kg/m2 seed quantity and time duration 5 days with roots aeration was range between 2.97-4.8%.
(B) Plant yield:
The highest yield of barley 19.5 kg / m2 recorded with the treatment of 2.5kg/m2 seed quantity of barley and time duration 5 days with roots aeration.
(C) Fish yield:
The final fish production was 56.7 kg/m3 for the total 3 cycles.
It could be summarized to say that Aquaponic important economic solutions to use waste water coming from fish pond as a nutrient to produce forge crop.
6- Recommendation
It was recommended to use the integrated aquaponic system to produce vegetative Barley as a forage crop and fish meet in 23days by using 2.5kg/m2 seed quantity with 5days water standing duration with aeration, the finley yield of the forage crop found to be 19.5kg / m2.
