Abstract

Quinoline compounds have received considerable attention in the last decade which plays a central role as chelating agents for a large numbers of metal ions, as they form a stable six-membered ring after complexation with a metal ion. 8-Hydroxyquinoline compounds have been explored as a viable drug discovery platform in many instances
The present study involves preparation of Cu(II) complexes (1-5) of 5-(4`-derivatives phenyl azo)-8-hydroxy-7-quinolinecarboxaldehydes (HLn) (where n = 1; OCH3 (HL1), n = 2; CH3 (HL2), n = 3; H (HL3), n = 4; Cl (HL4) and n = 5; NO2 (HL5)). Cu(II) complexes have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, X-ray, IR, electronic spectra, molar conductance magnetic susceptibility and thermogravimetric studies.
Chapter 1 contains a literature survey of the importance and structural chemistry of quinolin derivatives and their different complexes. Also, it includes a literature survey of biological activity of quinolin derivatives and their complexes. Chapter 2, involves materials used and involves the preparation of 45-(4`-derivatives phenyl azo)-8-hydroxy-7-quinolinecarboxaldehydes (HLn) (where n = 1; OCH3 (HL1), n = 2; CH3 (HL2), n = 3; H (HL3), n = 4; Cl (HL4) and n = 5; NO2 (HL5)) and their Cu(II) complexes (1-5). Analytical techniques and thermal methods of analysis were provided. Chapter 3 includes on the results and discussion abstracted from this study.
