Abstract

Unstable angina is a common cardiovascular condition associated with major adverse clinical events. Nurse role dramatically reduced the complications and mortality rates of this serious condition. This study aimed to assess the nurses’ performance regarding patients with unstable angina pectoris. Subjects and Methods; Descriptive exploratory design was used in carrying out this study it was conducted at Emergency Unit and CCU of Ain Shams University Hospitals; the study subject consisted of 67 nurses working in the previously mentioned settings. Tools; I. Unstable angina interview questionnaire, to assess the nurses’ knowledge regarding unstable angina pectoris. II. Observational checklists regarding care of patients with unstable angina pectoris. Results: 44.8% of the studied nurses had bachelor degree and 41.8% of studied subject, their years of experience from 10 -20 years. 68.7% of the studied nurses had unsatisfactory knowledge about unstable angina pectoris and 61.1% of the studied nurses had satisfactory practice regarding unstable angina pectoris. Conclusion: Based on the study finding it was concluded that, more than two thirds of the studied nurses had unsatisfactory knowledge about unstable angina pectoris and about two thirds of them had satisfactory practice regarding unstable angina pectoris. There was a positive correlation between total knowledge of the studied nurses and their total practice regarding unstable angina pectoris. Recommendation: Provide nurses with continuous educational programmes regarding unstable angina pectoris with evidence based guidelines to improve their knowledge and practice related to unstable angina pectoris.
