Abstract

The current study conducted to investigate the entomofauna
associated with faba bean, Vicia faba L. in El-Kharga Oasis, New
Valley Governorate. Furthermore, recycle the naturally occurring
plant water hyacinth, Eichhornia crassipes (Mart.) as a new
eco-friendly insecticide. The toxicity of the tested plant extracts
carried out on the black cutworm, Agrotis ipsilon (Huf.) and the
cowpea aphid, Aphis craccivora Koch. while the biological and
biochemical aspects were studied on A. ipsilon only. Then, the safety
assessment of test plant extracts toward albino rats to indicate the
safety of plant on the mammals.
The results showed that the most effective plant extracts was
AF extract showed a great percentages of mortality, pupation
inhibition, adult emergence and malformations. In addition, the
present findings showed a wide variety of biochemical changes in
total metabolites and enzymes of 2nd instar larva tissues and 6th instar
larvae hemolymph. Moreover, in electrophoresis protein and
enzymes patterns, some bands were missed or expressed with tested
plant extracts. The effect of promising extracts showed the safety of
the promising extracts of water hyacinth toward mammals.
